I am a Telecommunications student at Ball State University. Movies have always been a little more than a hobby of mine. I mean, I watch a lot of movies I like to think, but I think I watch them at sort of a different angle than most people do. I feel like I’m a little more critical than the average viewer and come at cinema with a more directorial eye. That is to say that I pick apart aspects of movies and see how they all mesh.

My top five favorite movies (subject to change):

  1. SLC Punk
  2. Fight Club
  3. The Big Lebowski
  4. In Bruges
  5. The Godfather

I like movies. It’s plain and simple. I don’t have any background in production or direction in film. I study law and criminal justice at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Probably the closest thing that would remotely make me an expert is that I worked at a movie theater for about four years. Does this really make me an expert? Who knows? But I’ve seen many movies in my day. After I watch a movie, I’d like to think I know what I’m talking about.

I take the more “sit back and enjoy” approach to movies. How much is this film going to impress me? Can the actors tell a good story? Am I going to leave this theater wanting my $10 back?

My top five favorite movies:

  1. Black Hawk Down
  2. Man on Fire
  3. Star Wars
  4. Saving Private Ryan
  5. 12 Angry Men

I am a Computer Technology major at Ball State University and I have always enjoyed watching movies. When I was younger, my dad and I would watch movies every night. We did not have cable and that was one thing that we had in common. I do not watch any movie based on any movie review; I like to make my own decisions.

My top five favorite movies (no matter how objectively bad they might be):

  1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  2. Good Will Hunting
  3. Heavy Weights
  4. Thank You for Smoking
  5. Howard the Duck

I have loved movies all of my life. I have also been a nerd all of my life, long before being a nerd was cool. Just so we’re clear, a lot of what I write about will deal with all that is nerdy and awesome.

I love a wide range of genres, but in the past decade, two of my biggest passions (movies and comics) have formed an unstoppable force. I want to know if its good or terrible, if they are true to the source material, or turn it into pointless crap (cough, GI Joe, cough). Horror, Sci-Fi, Cartoons and Comics that get made into movies, these are the movies that I will be following and reviewing.

My top five favorite movies (in no particular order):

  1. Transformers: The Movie (1986)
  2. The Dark Knight
  3. Shaun of the Dead
  4. Let Me In
  5. Serenity

My name is Jake Lentz. I write for my own website, Metal with Reason. I host a radio show called Midnight Metal. I run a comedy show called The Comedy Moshpit. I inundate myself with metal in many other ways, including concerts, active music listening, reading metal periodicals and books, and watching documentaries. I like to think of myself as an educated metalhead. And since I’m a normal human being living in America in 2011, I like to watch movies. My good friend Nick is a bit of a movie nerd, and he graciously asked me to do some guest writing for this blog. I of course accepted his offer.

My top five favorite movies

  1. The Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
  2. Ghostbusters
  3. The Legend of Drunken Master
  4. High Fidelity
  5. Conan the Barbarian

So, I’m Allie. I just finished my first semester of college at Goshen College. I love watching movies. I mean, who doesn’t? Right?

I love to watch classic horror movies, but I have to say that my favorite genre of movie is “controversial.” Well, yeah, many movies are controversial, but I’m talking about movies that break barriers and push people. Like Brokeback Mountain. I love politically controversial movies, and movies that show the lifestyle of homosexuals.

In my blogs, I will dissect and explain my point of view on these types of movies. But I’ll also throw in other genres for some color.

My top five favorite movies

  1. Death Proof
  2. The Lion King
  3. Million Dollar Baby
  4. Down in the Valley
  5. Temple Grandin
